This is Who We Serve

Our Youth-Our Community

Here with our with our benefactor, CO 1000 Phyllis Guiten, at the television studio awarding one of our youth.  Successful completion of Financial IQ Classes earns eligibility for scholarship.

Student's Success

Students, young or older, are eligible to apply for scholarship to help cover the cost of education. Financial Literacy First has simple requirements.

Scholarship Winners

Financial Literacy First has awarded several scholarships over the years.  We want to support each person's dreams regardless of their choice of professions.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

What is needed to become eligible to apply?

Those interested in applying must have completed Financial IQ Classes within 12 months from the date of application. If a student hasn't then they must take the Basics 101 class online or in person prior to applying.  Here are the other eligibility requirements:

  • Be age 18 or older
  • Currently enrolled in a post high school institution for education/skills [college, university, trade or vocational school]
  • Be a legal citizen [verification required]
  • Have completed at least 1 semester/term in the post high school curriculum with a B average or better

How Do I Apply?

Simply send an email to us or contact us through this website requesting an application.  We will reach back out with an application.

Financial Literacy First is registered with certain local schools such as Denver Community College, Pickens and Aurora Community College.  Check with your financial aid department to determine if you can apply directly through them.  Some additional requirements may still apply such as an interview.

How Much Is Awarded and When?

We will award at least $1,000 to a maximum of $3,000 to any student per a 12 month period.  Thus the same awardee can reapply up to 3 times for scholarship funds.

What Are the Requirements to Re-Apply?

If you have already received scholarship funds once, you are eligible to re-apply at anytime.  When you re-apply you must provide evidence that you are in the process of being financially successful.  This may include a new application and interview with the Board of Directors.

Typically we want to see a budget and your credit score for a 3 month period.  You can re-apply within the same 12 month period of your initial award. Maximum scholarship per student is $3,000.

What happens if I am eligible and completed the application?

Here are the basic steps to getting awarded:

  • Complete Financial IQ Class or Basics 101
  • Submit an application
  • Get interviewed by our Board of Directors
  • We will notify you of your approval or denial
  • If approved, we will apply funds directly to your student account. This process typically takes less than 30 days.
